How did you guys meet?

Shelissa: October 30, 2009 at a Nova Step Show. I sat in front of Omar and his fraternity brothers with my soon to be sorority sisters. Omar had this Styrofoam cup that he kept “unintentionally” dropping to roll under my seat. I got so sick of constantly passing it back to him so I kept it until after the show. 😉  A month later we were formally introduced at the AKA picnic.

Omar: First time I saw Shelissa we were at a Greek step show/stroll off at Nova. I kept dropping my empty cup and it rolled by her foot. As she kept picking it up repeatedly, she acted frustrated but was really intrigued and curious as to whom I was. We officially met at a sorority/fraternity picnic. I was sitting down minding my own business when she came over and started asking me a million questions.

Shelissa: Lies! You kept asking me the questions!! Lol

What do you remember about the first date?

Omar: I took her to dinner on South Beach, Lincoln Plaza. She wore a black top, skinny jeans and black heels.

When did you feel like you guys were hitting it off?

Shelissa: A few months into dating, we thought things wouldn’t work between us and tried to stop talking to each other a few times, but we always found ourselves calling or texting each other daily just to say hi. We realized at that time that we were really important to one another, and really cherished the support and encouragement we provided to the other.

What was your first impression of one another?

Shelissa: “ Ugh he’s Frat?!” lol.. But then I realized he wasn’t just that fraternity guy everyone knew him as, he was well put together and was such a gentleman; he treated me respectfully all the time. I was most attracted to how open he communicated with me and how natural our friendship began and progressed.

Omar: I thought she was gorgeous. I have a weakness for Caribbean women. Her smile was contagious and the sight of her made me happy and eager to spend more time with her. I almost thought it was too good to be true, but now I’m here… GOT EMMMM!!

When did you know this was the one?

Shelissa: I realized he was the one when I couldn’t go a day without thinking of him or talking to him. It felt so natural to be with him, in moments of laughter to sadness he was always at my side. Most importantly, we grew from just a relationship with each other, to creating a relationship with God together, and with each other’s families.

Omar: When I couldn’t stop thinking about her and how much she meant to me. Things that mean the world to me that I never realized. From getting along with my closest friends, to the approval and love from my family, coming to church and praying and worshiping the Lord with me. I knew what we had was a connection deeper than the physical looks, something long lasting and meaningful.

What is most important for you guys in planning this wedding?

Omar: For the actual wedding we want to make sure all of our closest family and friends are there with us. And for our marriage to keep God first and always remember each-other’s happiness and love.
